Containers verses traditional wrapping methods

Emmat explains the benefits of using sterilisation containers over traditional sterilisation wrapping methods.

Sterilisation tray wraps of various materials have been in use for many years as an approved method for wrapping surgical instrument trays.  One of the main disadvantages around the use of tray wraps is damage caused by incorrect handling, storage or from devices piercing the wraps leading to potential delays or cancellations in Theatres. Other disadvantages include increasing raw material costs alongside continuing sustainability concerns.

A safe alternative to tray wraps is a rigid method of containment, often referred to as instrument caskets or instrument containers.  These allow surgical instruments to be processed and contained in a sealed container during the sterilisation process. The integrity of the container is maintained by a safety sterilisation integrity device or tamperproof lock.

Surgical instruments can be assembled and presented in the usual DIN tray layout, or more delicate or complex devices can be supported by the use of special mesh baskets using silicone accessories allowing for further protection.

Large orthopaedic trays and Loan trays are particularly suited to containers due to the risk of damaged wraps due to sliding heavy wrapped trays as opposed to sliding a container. Containers also incorporate ergonomic and insulated handles at each end of the container to ease handling.

MDD 93/42 EWG. Approved for steam sterilization acc. EN 285 and validated acc. DIN EN ISO 17665-1.

Our range of TEKNO Containers are manufactured from high-quality aluminium. Aluminium has long proven to be a reliable material for sterilisation containers due to its fast heat exchange whilst also being extremely low weight.  In order to optimise surface quality and protection, the aluminium components are refined by anodizing.
